Frequently Asked Questions

  • General

    1. What is grabHalo?

One way to describe grabHalo is that it’s an app that lets you message people anywhere in the world. Another way, which we think describes grabHalo best, is that it’s a community of interesting people locally and from all over the world, ready to share their experiences, interests, and friendship. We’ve taken the difficulty out of finding people in places of interest to you. So whether you want to chat, meet new people, get local information, tell others about yourself or just get more attention, you’re sure to find plenty of people waiting for you on grabHalo.

    2. Are there rules?

Yep. Just a few! Above all you must be nice. When you contact strangers from all over the world using grabHalo, you immediately become an ambassador for the locality you messaged them from. So try to put your best foot forward. That is why your first name and last name will automatically appear whenever you send a message. Also remember, any content you post using our Service must comply with our Terms of Service and not violate any copyrights. Any offensive material will be deleted and may result in the suspension of your account. To find out more, read through the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Safety Guide.

    3. How much does it cost?

It is free to join grabHalo, create a profile, and message people anywhere in the world! Because grabHalo uses the same Internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing, there is no cost for sending basic Halos to other members of grabHalo.
We also have some paid features and/or Premium Services planned that will help you meet people more easily which we will be introducing along the way.

    4. What is a Halo?

A Halo has two meanings. One is the circle that you create by double-clicking on the map while using our app. You can drag this Halo around to select the region where you want to message people. Another meaning is the message sent to multiple recipients. When you send a message to multiple people that were selected under the Halo that you drew, you have sent them a Halo.

    5. Is a Halo basically a group message?

No. A group message allows all of the message recipients to participate in the same conversation, effectively setting up a group chat. A Halo is different in that it sets up many parallel one to one conversations with different people simultaneously. Each conversation is private and cannot be seen by other recipients of the same Halo message.

    6. Can I use grabHalo for commercial activities?

No. grabHalo is a messaging platform created to find and meet new people to form friendships and help each other. You may not use the Service for commercial activities. If you are interested in using grabHalo for such activity please write to us at contact@grabhalo.com.

  • Map:

    1. What do these icons on the map indicate?

The icons you see on the map indicate other members of our community. When you type your message and press send that Halo will be delivered into the feeds of the people you selected.

    2. What am I supposed to do on the Map tab?

Scroll around the map and look for people to message. You can zoom in and out as you please, there is no restriction to the radius of your Halo so make it as wide or narrow as you want. Once you have selected an area where you would like to send the Halo, you simply long press (for about 2 secs) on the Halo and a compose keypad will appear.

    3. Can others see me on their map?

Yes. Other grabHalo members can see you as an icon on their app. This helps them know you are there and ready to receive messages from them.

When you send a Halo the receiver of the message will see your message show up in their feed along with your first name and last name. Sharing your first name and last name to message recipients is a rule and the privacy setting for these fields cannot be changed even from the Profile tab. If a message recipient clicks on your Halo they will also be able to see where you were when you sent the Halo. By further clicking on the thumbnail the recipient may learn more about the sender by viewing information the sender has filled in on his profile AND made viewable.

    2. What is shown when I reply to a Halo

When you reply to a Halo, the receiver will automatically get to see your name along with the reply you have typed and messaged them. 3. How do I know when I have received a message?

If you want to respond to a Halo from someone else, you can do that by clicking on their Halo.

    5. When I click on one of the Halos in the feed, I go to another screen. What is this?

This screen gives you more information about the particular Halo you have clicked. If this is a Halo you sent, you can see if there are any responses to your Halo. If this is a Halo you received from someone else, you can click on the respond button to message him or her and start a conversation.

    6. When I click on one of the response threads visible on the Halo screen, I’m taken to another screen. What is this?

This is the screen where you can go through the actual message exchange between you and the other member. It’s a lot like SMS but without the costs!

    10. A member is making me uncomfortable. What can I do?

You can either give us his information using the Feedback button in your Settings tab, or email us at: contact@grabhalo.com. We will take all necessary and appropriate action.
